Augustine University triumphs in intense football match against rival school

In a thrilling display of athleticism and teamwork, the football team from Augustine University emerged victorious in a highly anticipated match against their arch rivals, Yaba College of Technology Epe. The battle unfolded in front of Augustine university football field, as passionate supporters from both schools cheered their teams until the final whistle.
The match, held on the 10th of June, 2023 in the renowned Augustine field, ended in a 2-2 draw after an exhilarating 90 minutes of play. Both teams showcase their skills, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats throughout the game.
Yaba College of Technology Epe, known for its strong offensive line and swift ball control, wasted no time asserting its dominance. In the 15th minute, their star striker, Charles Owolabi, skillfully navigated Augustine’s defenders to score the opening goal, sending their supporters into a frenzy of excitement.
Not to be outdone, Yaba College of Technology has a well-executed counterattack. In the 30th minute, their midfielder, Somto Uchenna, unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty box, leaving Augustine’s goalkeeper with no chance to save. The second goal ignited the spirit of Yabatech fans, who erupted with joy.
As the first half drew close, Augustine’s striker, Fortune, missed a great opportunity to score when he faced the keeper alone and kicked the ball over the goalpost, ending the first half. In the second half, Augustine University was chosen to mount a comeback. They launched a relentless assault on Yabatech defence, seeking to restore parity. At the 65th minute, Augustine University was awarded a penalty kick due to a foul inside the box. Stepping up with confidence, their midfielder, Dave, coolly converted the penalty, giving Augustine University a surprising return.
As the second half drew to a close, Augustine University was awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position. It was their left back, Igwese, a 400 level student, who stepped up and delivered a magnificent strike, curling the ball past the outstretched arms of the Yaba College of Technology keeper. The erupted field has a score line of 2-2.
The remaining minutes saw both teams intensify their efforts to break the deadlock. Augustine’s defense continued to push forward, capitalizing on gaps in Yabatech’s defense, while Yabatech defense thwarted several scoring opportunities with well-timed interceptions and tackles. Despite their best efforts, neither team could find the winning goal, leading to a draw at the end of the regulation period. While the match did not produce a clear winner, the excitement and skill displayed by both teams left spectators thoroughly entertained.
Coach Ehonor Aisosa of Augustine University expressed his pride in his team’s performance by acknowledging the resilience and determination they exhibited throughout the match. He praised Dave for his opening goal and Igwese for his crucial equalizing goal from an exceptional free-kick.
