PUNCH Media Foundation Concludes Editorial Cartooning Panel Discussion with Academic Engagement

In a dynamic session held on Thursday, 22 February 2024, the PUNCH Media Foundation, in collaboration with the United States Consulate, Lagos, successfully wrapped up its insightful panel discussion on editorial cartooning at the American Corner, Lekki.
The event, a culmination of a 3-day workshop on editorial cartooning, united industry experts, professionals, and eager participants in exploring the evolution, role, and effectiveness of political cartooning in Nigeria. Notably, American cartoonist Barbara Brandon-Croft, renowned for her award-winning contributions, shared valuable insights with the engaged audience.
The audience enjoyed a captivating video presentation showcasing selected works of Nigerian editorial cartoonists, offering a visual journey through the art’s evolution. The session, featuring an overview of editorial cartooning, a one-on-one moderated discussion, and a dynamic question and answer segment, sparked a meaningful exchange of ideas. During the discussions, academic lecturers suggested that editorial cartooning should be incorporated into school curricula.
Representing Augustine University at the event were two esteemed lecturers, Mr. Osamagbe Lesley Egharevba and Dr. John Ibanga, along with five students: Osemeke Augustine Chidera, Mosuro Sola Peter, Akinsulire AnuOluwapo Abigail, Onyeka Kamsiyochukwu Stephanie and Anene Osadebamen Rejoice. This program’s success, supported by the United States Consulate, underscores the growing recognition of editorial cartooning in Nigeria. The PUNCH Media Foundation extends gratitude to all participants, emphasizing the significance of such events in fostering awareness and understanding of this unique form of artistic expression.
