Mass Communication Week at Augustine University Commences with Inspiring Career Talk and Panel Discussion

Augustine University started its Mass Communication Week with a captivating career talk by Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, the distinguished keynote speaker. The event, held on January 18, 2023, at Augustine University’s Convocation Hall, was marked by insightful discussions and presentations.
The proceedings commenced with an opening prayer led by Prof. Joseph Omoregbe, followed by the rendition of the National and School Anthems. The hosts, Taiwo David and Ezimorah Oge, skillfully introduced the keynote speaker and honored guests, including Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, Mr. Saheed Fuhad, and Dr. Chief Fassy Adetokunbo Yusuf.
The distinguished high table included notable personalities from Augustine University, such as Vice-Chancellor Prof. Christopher Odetunde, Registrar Mrs. Magaret Aziba, Acting Dean of Students Affairs Dr. Obayiuwana Amarachukwu, Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences, Prof. Omoregbe, Heads of Departments, and other faculty members.
The Head of Department of Mass Communication, Professor Sunday Oloruntola delivered the welcome address, expressing his excitement about hosting the first-ever Mass Communication career talk. He introduced Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, a seasoned journalist, to shed light on the opportunities and challenges in the field in the digital age.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Oyetunde Christopher, in his address, highlighted the significance of Mass Communication and Media Studies as the flagship program of the university. He encouraged students to aspire to surpass their lecturers and emphasized the importance of continuous personal and professional growth.
Akinsulire Abigail, one of the pioneer students, presented a biography of Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, detailing his illustrious career as a journalist and communication expert. Mr. Otufodunrin then shared insights into the opportunities and challenges of Mass Communication and Media Studies, emphasizing various career paths within the field.
The event also featured a panel session moderated by Mr. Lesley Egharevba, with panelists Mr. Oludare Onasanya, Mr. Fuhad Saheed, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin and Mr. Kehinde Adegboyega. They discussed their diverse experiences in the field, offering valuable advice and perspectives on career development.
Mr. Otufodunrin concluded his talk by presenting his newly written books to the institution and generously gifting free copies to Mass Communication students. Dr. Chief Fassy Yusuf, a lecturer, lawyer, author, advertiser, and mass communicator, spoke on the relevance and evolution of journalism.
Augustine Osemeke, Chairman of Mass Communication Week, expressed gratitude in the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the support of God, the panellists, lecturers, and students for making the event a success.
