Augustine University Welcomes NUC Representatives for Departmental Accreditation

In a pivotal move aimed at fortifying its academic standing, Augustine University opened its doors on Tuesday, 14th November, to a delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) tasked with accrediting the institution’s Departments of Economics and Political Science.

The visit commenced with a panel session gathering esteemed delegates from the NUC alongside key members of Augustine University’s leadership. Notable figures present included Professor Christopher Odetunde, the Vice-Chancellor of Augustine University; Professor Anthony Akinwale (Rev. Fr.), the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Augustine University; Mrs. Margaret Aziba, the Registrar; Dr. Dan Ogbeide, representing the Political Science department as the Director of Academic Planning and Head of Department, and Mrs. Grace Evbuomwan, the HOD of the Economics department.

Ms. Moyin Ajayi, the University’s Public Relations Officer, initiated proceedings with an introduction of the University’s management team. This was followed by a compelling address by Professor Obida Wafure, a distinguished Economics professor from the University of Abuja, representing the NUC. Professor Wafure expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the significance of the impending accreditation. The other members of the NUC delegation were subsequently introduced.

The accreditation process aims to subject the Departments of Economics and Political Science to a rigorous evaluation, ensuring alignment with predefined benchmarks of excellence established by the NUC. Activities scheduled during this evaluation encompass the assessment of faculty members and students, scrutiny of the university’s library and electronic resources, and an in-depth review of the qualifications of lecturers within both departments. The accreditation signifies a concerted effort by Augustine University to uphold quality standards and secure official recognition from the NUC, marking a pivotal milestone in its academic journey.
